10 top tips for your first Wedding Fair

We share our top ten tips for visiting your first Wedding Fair…

You’ve got the ring on your finger and it’s now time to start planning the big day – but where do you start? A wedding fair is a great place to begin, with everything under one roof – from venues and dresses, to bands and caterers – you’ll be on your way before you can say ‘I do’. We here at The Wedding Fairs have compiled a list of our top 10 tips to make sure you make the most out of your visit!

Before you head down, make sure you visit the fairs website to familiarise yourself with the show, the features and all of our exhibitors, and then be sure to follow our top tips for your first visit…

1. Start your day at the Catwalk Show
There’s no better place to see a wide variety of beautiful wedding dresses than live on the runway. Large scale shows will always have a fantastic runway, with top bridal boutiques showcasing the year’s most sought after designs and elegant classics, in a choreographed showcase that shows you a wide variety of dresses. Grab a glass of bubbly and watch as models run the catwalk in beautiful gowns and elegant footwear, bridesmaids and occasion wear, often joined onstage by male models showcasing tailored suits. It’s the perfect way to start your day and get you inspired to start hunting. We run 4 catwalks a day out all three of our shows!

2. Find your Wedding Dress
Having seen the dresses on the catwalk, take note of your favourites and head to the boutiques and designers to try them on our. At The Wedding Fair, we have The Essential Bridalwear Collection where you’ll be able to try on the gowns you’ve just seen on the runway, as well as hundreds more. With a huge selection of dresses, experts are always on hand at any fair to assist you in looking for your perfect dress and guide you in the right direction to make sure you feel and look your best on your big day.

3. Take your time
At our Manchester and London shows, we over 180 exhibitors, so depending on where you head there can be plenty to see at some wedding fairs. This is why it’s important to take the time to enjoy the day and take it all in. Exhibitors at any fair are experts in their respective fields and are dedicated to making your day the absolute best it can be, so be sure to speak to them about your wedding, ask as many questions as you need and let them know all about your special day.

4. Grab a show guide
You’ve found the perfect venue – beautiful but fun, you know your guests will love it and you can’t picture your day being anywhere else, but, you’ve forgotten the name now you’re home and you’ve googled everything you can think of to find it with no luck. We try to make it as easy as possible to find the people you’ve met at The Wedding Fairs. We have an online exhibitor list but our printed show guide is free, so be sure to grab one at the entrance to make note of the people you need to contact once you’re home! If you can’t find one, be sure to ask staff at the fair your attending!

5. Tap your toes to the live music
Nothing sets the mood at a wedding like the music, and whether you’re looking for toe tapping, hand clapping, arms in the air soul and funk covers by a 10 piece band, or a more mellow touch with a string quartet, the Entertainment Stage is the place to go. Showcasing acts across the weekend, hold your own auditions to find the perfect background music, or the ideal party soundtrack for your wedding!

6. Be a VIP for the day
The planning process comes only second to the big day itself in terms of excitement, so why not treat yourself and your party to a VIP experience. You’ll experience plenty of benefits and if there’s one time you should treat yourself, it’s in the build up to your wedding…

7. Mix it up
All the best fairs have tonnes of great features, whether it’s live demonstrations, performances or free classes. Be sure to plan ahead and see what’s happening before you head down. At the Wedding Fairs, we have The Shack Revolution who are the premier party starters in the South West. Having made mojitos and blended bellinis all over the country, these guys will be joining us again to run their Cocktail Crafting Masterclasses! Pull up a hay bale as they demonstrate in their step by step demonstrations how to make their signature cocktails and offer delicious free samples at the end!

8. Become a wedding expert with masterclasses or demonstrations
Experts are usually on hand at most fairs to share their expertise and demonstrate their vast knowledge, so it’s really important you head down to these. You’d be surprised what you can pick up and there’s pretty much always a great variety of classes or talks on hand at the larger fairs, so be sure to head down. We asked world renowned brand Benefit Makeup to take to the stage to run our visitors through the wedding day looks! They run their free masterclasses to demonstrate the best makeup techniques and essential styles for Wedding Day make up, much to the delight of the crowds that flock to see them.

9. Grab a bargain
It’s the worlds worst kept secret that weddings can be pretty expensive, so that’s why many exhibitors offer special prices, unique offers, free samples & demonstrations at our shows, and they duly oblige! You can usually find of a list of the best offers on a shows website, and this should be updated right up until the show so you won’t have to hunt for the best deals when you arrive!

10. And relax…
Once you’ve browsed through the show and feel you’ve made the most of your day, be sure to finish off somewhere comfortable with a glass of bubbly or a nice cup of copy to sit down and reflect on everything you’ve found. Be sure you’ve visited all of the exhibitors and head back to anyone you’d like to speak to again before leaving. We’ve built spacious Prosecco Bars at all of our shows, and they’re the perfect place to sit back, relax and reflect on a day of planning perfection…
