Want to give truly personalised gift to those newlyweds but are a novice when it comes to art and crafts? These wedding gift ideas are so easy to make for someone’s special day – and are the perfect way to say thank you for the invite and to wish them well for the future.

Personalised mug

Love a brew? Give the gift of a personalised mug that they can enjoy for years to come. It offers a little reminder of that special day you shared together whenever they pull it out of the cupboard – perfect for when you pop round for a cuppa and catch up. Not sure how to get a design onto a mug? Try out decal transfer paper, which is so easy to use.

You will need:

  • Transfer paper
  • Plain mugs
  • Printer
  • Oven

Simply print your design on the paper then apply this to your mug and bake in the oven. The design could be as simple as their new surname and the date of their wedding or even a photograph of the couple.

First dance canvas

Do you know what the couple’s song is? Then get the key lyrics painted on a canvas that they can hang in their home.

You will need:

  • Plain canvas – buy one of these online or from your nearest craft store.
  • Poster paint
  • Stencil
  • Permanent marker

Splash paint on the canvas in the wedding theme colours to brighten things up. Then use the stencil and a permanent marker in a colour of your choosing to keep the writing neat.

Bubble bath

Give the gift of a romantic bubble bath with a homemade concoction. You can change the scent with essential oils, such as lavender, camomile or rose.

You will need:

  • Baby oil
  • Honey
  • Unscented hand soap or shampoo
  • Vanilla extract
  • Glass bottle
  • Funnel
  • Gift tag

Using a funnel, add these ingredients to your glass bottle – you can recycle one or pick up an ornate design. Mix equal parts baby oil and hand soap then add a few drops of vanilla and a couple of teaspoons of honey. Shake the bottle to mix together and you’re done. Write a message on the gift tag and attach this around the stopper.

Map featuring a special location

Know where the couple first met? Or where they got engaged? Source a map of the location – this could be a print out from Google or you could go old school and buy a paper map of the area – and add this to a frame.

You will need:

  • Picture frame
  • Map of the location you want to feature.
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Cut out the location to the size of the backing card on the photo frame. You can choose any type of photo frame – a heart shaped one is a great choice for the occasion. Simply stick the map in, add the glass front and you’re done. Wrap the frame up in pretty tissue paper and a message on the gift tag about the location – perhaps say something like ‘a little reminder of where you met’ or ‘here’s where it all started’.

Chalkboard cheese board

Are the couple a fan of their cheeses? Create this cheeseboard which they can personalise and enjoy.

You will need:

  • Rectangular dish
  • Porcelain chalkboard paint
  • Masking tape
  • Paint brush

You can pick up porcelain chalkboard paint from a number of specialist craft stores online – a quick search should bring up some great priced options. Simply paint this into the middle of your dish and leave to dry. Use masking tape to keep the edges clean and to create a neat line. Grab a small bag – cellophane or hessian are good choices – and fill this with small sticks of chalk. Add a gift tag and let them know they can use their new chalkboard for when they next want to dine on cheese.

Ready to create that personalised gift with very little need for any artistic talent? Try out one of these and give that couple a wedding present they’ll cherish forever.
